Our Safeguarding Team

Safeguarding at Invested Education

At Invested Education we recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of our pupils.

We aim to ensure that:

●      Appropriate action is taken in a timely manner to safeguard and promote children’s welfare

●      All staff are aware of their statutory responsibilities with respect to safeguarding

●      Staff are properly trained in recognising and reporting safeguarding issues

The school plays a crucial role in preventative education. This is in the context of a whole-school approach to preparing pupils for life in modern Britain, and a culture of zero tolerance of sexism, misogyny/misandry, homophobia, biphobia and sexual violence/harassment.

Staying Safe

The GDPR applies to all EU member states from the 25th May 2018. This affects how schools manage personal data and how this is protected and shared.

The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the result of four years of work by the EU to bring data protection legislation in-line with new, previously unforeseen ways that data is now used.

The GDPR supersedes the Data Protection Act 1998. It introduces tougher fines for non-compliance and breaches, and gives people more say over what companies can do with their data. It also makes data protection rules more or less identical throughout the EU.

Privacy

Your personal information is just that – personal. We promise to treat it with the highest standards of security and confidentiality at all times and in compliance with relevant legislation.

We need to collect personal information in order to deliver education to children and the administration of this. This includes information that you provide over the telephone, on forms, by email, letter, in person and online. We’ll only collect information that is necessary or is required by law and we’ll explain the reasons for this at the time of collection. You can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you.

We’ll use the information within the school and never share the information with third parties without your permission (also referred to as ‘consent’) unless we’re required to do so by law.

You may choose not to provide us with your personal information, although some of our services may not be available as a result. We’ll tell you when this is the case.

Online Safety

In today’s society, children, young people and adults interact with technologies, such as smart phones, games consoles, tablets and the internet, on a daily basis and experience a wide range of opportunities, attitudes and situations.

The internet is a good resource for young people’s education and development. It makes learning fun, fast and easy and is an essential element in 21st century life for education, business and social interaction. However, although the exchange of information, ideas, social interaction and learning opportunities involved are greatly beneficial to all, they occasionally place children, young people and adults in danger.

At Invested Education online safety is explicitly taught as part of the PHSE curriculum and also delivered during tutorial sessions.  There is a direct focus to promote the use of the internet while making sure you keep yourself safe.  In you feel you would like further information on keeping your child safe while using the internet please get in touch and we’ll help.

Anti-Bullying

At Invested Education we place the safety and wellbeing of all of our pupils at the heart of everything we do. As a school we do not underestimate the impact that bullying can have on a person’s life. It can cause high levels of distress, affecting young people’s well-being, academic and social development right through into adulthood. Therefore at this school we recognise bullying as anti-social behaviour that will not be tolerated. We believe pupils and families should have the confidence that they will be listened to and that any bullying that is reported will be dealt with promptly and effectively.

We are a TELLING school, this means that anyone who is aware of any type of bullying taking place is expected to tell a member of staff immediately.

Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass is a charitable organisation set up in 2011, which has since enabled effective interventions for many thousands of children who’ve experienced domestic abuse. It is a police and education early information safeguarding partnership allowing the schools to offer immediate support to children experiencing domestic abuse.

Operation Encompass ensures that there is a simple telephone call or notification to a school’s trained Designated Safeguarding Lead /Officer (known as key Adult) before the start of the next school day after an incident of police-attended domestic abuse where there are children related to either of the adult parties involved.

Information is shared with a school’s Key Adult (Designated Safeguarding Lead or Officer) before the start of the next school day after officers have attended a domestic abuse incident. This sharing of information enables appropriate support to be given, depending upon the needs and wishes of the child.

Invested Education supports this work; all of our staff have been trained to support appropriately any student who needs it following communication from the Operation Encompass team.
