Hospitality & Catering

INTENT

The KS4 Hospitality and Catering curriculum aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in this dynamic industry. It develops practical abilities in food preparation and cooking, alongside an understanding of nutrition, food safety, and customer service. Students are encouraged to explore career pathways, build transferable skills such as teamwork and organisation, and appreciate cultural diversity in food, preparing them for further education, apprenticeships, or employment.

IMPLEMENTATION

The course is delivered through a balance of practical and theory-based lessons, allowing students to apply learning to real-world contexts. Practical sessions focus on preparing, cooking, and presenting food to professional standards, while theory covers nutrition, industry operations, and customer needs. Learning is carefully sequenced, reinforced through controlled assessments, projects, and opportunities for industry insight, ensuring students build confidence and competence throughout the course.

IMPACT

By the end of KS4, students will demonstrate competence in food preparation and a secure understanding of nutrition, food safety, and the wider hospitality industry. They will leave the course with transferable skills such as resilience, organisation, and problem-solving, as well as the confidence to progress into further education, apprenticeships, or employment. Ultimately, students will be equipped with both a recognised qualification and valuable life skills that prepare them for future success.
